I have a confession. I have been sitting at the bottom of a pity pool for longer than I should have. Ever been there? Things not going your way and dwelling on the negative? Over and over again?
Maybe you’ve been wronged by a co-worker or family member. Maybe you’ve taken a hit to your finances or health. How do you pull yourself out of it? How do you get unstuck and move forward?
The bible has some clear answers to help us in times of trouble. In II Corinthians 1:3-4 we read, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” God knows where we’re at and what we’re going through.
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10.
Did you catch that? God is with us, will strengthen us, and will help us! Now how do we overcome our trials with God’s help? The bible tells us to humble ourselves, cast our cares on Him, pray, and renew our minds.
Let’s start with I Peter 5:6-7, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Next, we are told in Luke 18:1, “Then he spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.” Good advice.
Then in Philippians 4:8, we read,” Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise-worthy- meditate on these things.” Focus on the positive. Count your blessings.
And moving forward might include having to forgive someone. “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” Mark 11:25
Pulling yourself out of a negative slump is a lot easier when you rely on God’s word and trust in His promises. I encourage you to memorize some of these verses to help you when the tough times arise. God is in your corner and you can have faith that He will see you through!
God Bless!
Linda
